Climate Crossroads

Climate Crossroads, AoA Entry - 2D Art
Climate Crossroads
"Climate Crossroads" came at a personal crossroad as well. I had been working in basic science/teaching, so I remain eternally grateful that an emergent deep awareness of the climate change crisis prompted me to become a Climate Ambassador with Physicians for Social Responsibility, which remained my focus until full retirement and moving to Florida.

My paintings, photos, & mixed media work for exhibition & sale have been inspired by perspectives on oppression, equity & justice. They illustrate two academic books and three UN publications on species diversity & sustainability. Others have been seen in NYC & Gainesville galleries, and as part of set design for a "Fringe Festival" play about climate change activism that was staged last year at Orlando Shakes.

Unlike performance & fine art, I experience visual images as a more truly universal medium of communication across time and space. Anyone with a message to share has the power to create broadly appealing visual art, conveying their message their way. Primarily using trash and recycled materials, my paintings speak about the insane injustices resulting from human-kind's failure to live sustainably and act toward Nature with respect. My reading of the data are that we can no longer prevent catastrophic climate change. Yet and still, we have the ability to make choices today that will limit the damage tomorrow; mitigating consequent human suffering, which is and will be the result of treating our planet as a waste disposal bin.
