The Present Moment
The subject is Buddha as I decided I am grateful for being able to live in the moment now that I have retired from 28 years of teaching art. More specifically the moment the viewer looks at my artwork. I am happy to make my own art and enter it into shows after investing half of my life to teaching students to find their own way with their own artwork. I used as found object directional street signage all pointing inward to Buddha. I am trying to be as sculptural as possible in a 2D manner. I hand cut the stencils to make the Buddha. I allowed the paint to be paint and not for representation where I could. I worked subtractively by grinding into the bare metal of the signage. I used keys as found object as I was going for symbolism for knowledge and opportunity.
